This is the first issue of the digital newsletter of Marres. Nowadays, everybody gets flooded with information and institutes are confronted with a difficult choice how to inform effectively. Marres has made the choice of a newsletter, which exclusively informs about different projects and exhibitions, and that will only be send selectively and occasionly. The Russian Schizorevolution: an exhibition that might have been

With the project focussing on the Flaneur, Marres completed her inquiries into the 19th century and aims her ambition at the 20th century and the idea of the avant-garde. First of all, Marres points her attention to an avant-garde from Leningrad/St. Petersburg, which was active from 1985 to 1995. Free guided tours

Every last Sunday of each month at 2 pm, Marres offers free guided tours to her visitors (only entrance fee). Registration is not necessary. The first tour will take place at 26 April and will take The Russian Schizorevolution: an exhibition that might have been as its focus.

New website

The new website functions like an online archive and contains all information - participants, exhibition texts, essays, pictures, advretisemens, et cetera - about the exhibitions and projects from 2006 onwards. The site is constructed in such a way that the visitor can navigate in different ways The visitor can navigate through the website in different ways, so he is likely to get to unexpected information. Marres Books has an own page on the website, which, among others, gives insight in the entire collection of the bookshop. Click here to go to the new website.

New employees, new initiatives

From January 1st 2009 the team of Marres has two new employees: Brigitte Bloksma and Lisette Smits. Marres initiated, next to the presentation institution, a project bureau. Brigitte, former senior Policy Developer at the Provincie Limburg, will, in the function of head of Research and Development, initiate projects in co-operation with different partners. Lisette, former director of CASCO (Utrecht), will contribute to the exhibition program of Marres as a curator. Her first project will open in September and will consist of a group exhibition entitled Depression. Depression is developed in co-operation with Dan Kidner.

Marres Members

Marres wants to further strenghten the relationship with her visitors and other users. For this reason, Marres started a new initiative: Marres memberships. An anual contribution of 50 euro will offer the possibility to become part of a creative network, visit exhibitions for free, get exclusive guided tours and receive free essays by leading critics. With your contributions Marres will be able to continuously develop inspiring exhibitions, set up international projects and utilize the house to its full potential. More...

Stair/Stare in Display

The exhibition Stair/Stare (2007) from the series on the Ruin has been published in the book Display (John Stones, RotoVision). Stair/Stare is a project by Johannes Schwartz in cooperation with Experimental Jetset and Herman Verkerk. The book shows how the photos by Johannes Schwartz position themselves to the spatial interventions by Experimental Jetset and Herman Verkerk. In the words of Stones: “the disorienting relation of the exhibition installation and the photography”. More...
